Abstract:
The article deals with the issue of filling the space of the aperture of TEM-horn by dielectric. The process of wave propagation inside the antenna is treated from the standpoint of the principles of geometrical optics After finding the wavefront shape is its assumption of spherical shape, which is compensated by the distribution of dielectric constant within the horn.
In order to provide the necessary dielectric permeability in different directions is used material, with air cavities. Their size is defined according to the Lihtenekker-s formula. Then a three-dimensional model of filling the space inside the mouthpiece is constructed and calculated the basic characteristics of radiation (the radiation pattern, VSWR) using FDTD-method. Analysis of the results shows an increasement in the coefficient of directivity, and the reduction of the lower cut-off frequency.
