Abstract:
In the paper, we demonstrate a gain of multicomponent signals with respect to «faster-than-Nyquist» signals (FTN). Both approaches have been designed to improve a spectral efficiency of single-carrier signals by intentional introduction of ISI. The FTN signaling implies a utilization of infinite RRC-pulses, and the MCS utilize optimal finite pulses. The optimization was based on the criterion of minimal bandwidth comprising 99 percent of signal power, the maximal level of ISI and peak-to-average power ratio were used as additional constraints. The comparison of FTN with MCS was conducted in the plane of bandwidth and energy consumptions under a fixed receiver-s computational complexity. In addition, we considered modified energy consumptions taking values of PAPR into account. It has been shown that optimal MCS provide lower consumptions with respect to FTN with RRC-pulses.
