Pulse interval instability of three- and fourlevel solid-state lasers

Abstract:
The analytical expressions have been obtained for pulse interval instability of three- and fourlevel diode-pumped solid-state lasers. Passively and actively Q-switching solid-state lasers have been studied. Inregular (accidental) instability due to pumping power fluctuations and regular (determinant) instability due to laser media temperature changes have been investigated. Inregular part of instability (or pulse interval jitter σT) depends on laser media temperature Tk. Regular part of instability (or temperature sensitivity coefficient KT of pulse interval T to temperature TK changing) depends on laser type. It has been shown that KT = 0 for threelevel and ideal fourlevels lasers. The obtained expressions for σT and KT facilitate the practical estimations and optimization of the laser operation mode of solid-state lasers with different energy levels schemes of laser media.
