Abstract:
Oscillator phase noise figure (PNF) definition was suggested. It is defined as ratio of total PM noise power spectral density (PSD) to it-s part caused by thermal noise of the oscillator resonant circuit. For microwave BJT Clapp oscillator a PNF minimal level dependence on the ratio of oscillation frequency to the BJT transition frequency has been calculated. A simple formula for estimation of BJT oscillator minimal PM noise PSD using PNF, loaded Q-factor and oscillations power is offered.
