Some research results about sea surface space radar altimeter technique are collated in the paper. Classical method of statistical radiolocation is used to synthesize optimal discriminator. Optimal discriminator of significant wave height is synthesized in frequency domain. Discriminator characteristics are estimated, potential measurement accuracy is assessed.
