The history of information technology takes its origin long before the modern discipline of «computer science», which appeared in the 1960s. With the emergence of writing became possible to store and transmit information on physical storage media. The methods of information communication and transmission are improved with the development of instrumental and technological tools, but until the mid-twentieth century, the concept of «information» was used as «message». The unity of the «technology» and «information technology» lies in the fact that the basis of both of them is the process, which refers to a specific set of actions. This article is about the history of the origin and formation of information technology. The main stages of the instrumental-technological means to obtain information and the ways of its realization are analyzed. The crucial importance of the information theory emerged in the mid-twentieth century is emphasized at the article. The main causes of the development of information technologies are considered based on computer and telecommunication technologies.
