Calculation of relative orientation of two overlapping earth-s surface radar images

Abstract:
The stitching of earth-s surface radar images increases the efficiency of interpretation and second processing of radar data. To stitch two earth-s surface radar images successfully it is necessary to calculate their relative orientation. The relative orientation is the transformation from the coordinate system of first radar image to second one. The desired transformation is calculated using points from overlapping region of radar images in case of lack of information about radar orientation during the radar image forming. In this paper typical geometric distortions of radar images were analyzed; the mathematical model of the desired transformation was proposed; the calculation procedure of proposed mathematical model parameters was developed using the method of least squares with M-estimators. The obtained calculation procedure is resistant to the outliers in the set of input data.
