Application of expert systems to the development of competence-based models for engineering education programs for graduates

Abstract:
The article features the competence model applied to graduates and an approach to intellectual development of an expert system to automate the analysisof relevance of professional requirements to the educational standard in order to improve the quality of academic course in engineering. Comparison of competencies outlined in the Federal State Education Standard and the requirements applied to specialists are carried out on a semantic level. In order to derive output solutions and provide recommendations on relevance of graduate competencies to requirements applied to professionals, expert system technology in combination with ontologies has been chosen. We have designed a system architecture, which combines production type knowledge base, ontologies, ontology editor, explanatory component, as well as a database of competencies applied to graduates. We-ve also outlined the components of the expert system. The proposed approach also enables to monitor the quality of graduates - training. In order to accelerate the development of ontologies, we suggest using knowledge engineering methods and software systems, which feature automated knowledge extraction procedure.
