Simulation of digital antenna array with signal sampling at different times

Abstract:
One of the most significant method among current technologies of the space-time signal processing is the digital beamforming. The antenna pattern is formed by digital antenna arrays without use of the phase shifters. In comparison with traditional antennas they allow us to achieve the high interference immunity of a radio link and a system stability under conditions of multipath wave propagation or active jamming attack. Only in the digital antenna arrays it is possible to implement the adaptive signal processing algorithms. The process of the digital beamforming is reduced to performing FFT for the complex output voltages samples in the receiving channels received during one time moment. The main disadvantage of a FFT is that it is a narrow band transformation. Therefore in practice for the broadband systems implementation the schemes with programmable delay lines in channels are applied. but in the microwaverange their application is limited by minimum delay lengths. In this connection the idea of signal sampling at different times is offered. For its check simulation of an antenna array has been carried out. In this. array instead of programmable delay lines the signal sampling at different times in each channel followed by addition of samples was used. The results confirmed that signal sampling at different times allows us to form the array pattern indeed. If the weighted summation with complex weights adaptive control is applied instead of signal combining. it is possible to operate it in a proper way.
