Mathematical models of observations applied to passive two-position radar that measures range to radio-emitting targets are considered in the paper. The conditions under which linearization of expression describing the measurable parameter are derived. Also the study of range dependency on two-position system configuration and statistical properties of observation noise is realized. The requirements that provide the best conditions of radio-emitting target observations are defined
