Abstract:

Solar Cycle 25, which began in December 2019, is predicted to be stronger than Solar Cycle 24, as indicated by a number of factors. For example, the first individual day with 90 spots occurred in the 12th month of this cycle, compared to the 27th month in cycle 24. Since June 1, 2020, there have been 78 spotless days, compared to 130 in the corresponding period of Cycle 24. May 2024 was marked by an increase in the number of X-flares on the Sun, which led to a geomagnetic storm on Earth. The 25th solar cycle, the increase in the number of solar flares in May 2024, and the resulting geomagnetic storms on Earth are investigated. The influence of these geomagnetic storms on radio communications and the operation of receivers of satellite navigation signals was considered. The results obtained allow us to use this experience for cases of increasing the number of coronal mass ejections to prevent negative effects on sensitive equipment on Earth and in near-Earth space.
