Abstract:

A way for determining the complex impedance of an arbitrary load is described. A load is supposed to be connected to a transmission line. It is shown by means of Smith chart that two measurements of the reflection coefficient modulus are sufficient for a  determination of impedance. Then the known active resistance is to be connected in series to the load and the measurement is  repeated. Formulas are given that allow us to calculate the complex impedance from the data obtained by measurements.
