The classes of algorithms developed on the basis of two different models of combining the components of the parts and the background are defined and describe the additive model and the switchable model. The class of algorithms of differential type for contrast enhancement is analyzed; algorithms for increasing local contrast based on rank filters with spatially adaptive neighborhoods. The disadvantages of the linear function in describing ranking algorithms using a local smoothing operation are revealed.
