Abstract:
The problem of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of individual sources placed on earth and emitting in VHF range (30-200 MHz) is considered. DOA estimation is performed by employing passive aperture synthesis on board of a flying vehicle with antenna position es-timation (fig.2). It is shown that GNSS receiver provides sufficient accuracy for this wavelength range. An experiment was implemented to illustrate the effectiveness of the system proposed (fig. 3). For emitter frequency 100 MHz an aperture of 620 m with angle resolution 0,3° was synthesized. In order to eliminate emitter frequency shift, phase instability and modulation the method of multi-position passive aperture synthesis is suggested. With this method the radio wave source emitting at 146 MHz frequency modulated signals was located with 17 m error at 4 km range (fig. 6).
