Inclination of the radiolocation station antenna-s vertical axis determination using MEMS accelerometers

Abstract:
One of the factors that affect the accuracy of target determination using Radiolocation station is the inclination of the radar antenna-s vertical axis. To solve this problem surveying compass and quadrant have been widely used. The main disadvantage of such methods that can-t be used when Radar-s working and antenna-s rotating. Modern radiolocation stations are staffed with GNSS receivers with the attitude measurements function, but they can-t be used at angular velocities more than 8 revolutions per minute, that does not meet the actual requirements. In this article the alternative method for the vertical axis inclination determination is proposed. The method is based on the calculations using measurements from MEMS accelerometers, which have been placed on radar-s antenna. The method uses variable components of sensor measurements. These components occur due to the inclination angle and gravitational force of the Earth. Series of experiment to test potential accuracy the estimation of the inclination angle using MEMS sensor Analog Devices ADIS16355 have been made and results are presented. Turntable at angular velocities up to 360 degrees per second in experiments has been used. The factors that affect the inclination-s estimation accuracy are analyzed. The methods to decrease such effects are also proposed.
