Abstract:
The comparative analysis of communication quality metrics in ESA and CCSDS uplink command channels are realized in this paper. The structure, showing interrelatedness of PCM/MPSK (CCSDS) and PCM/BSPK/FM (ESA) communication quality metrics, is cited. The noise-immunity and the spectral efficiency are used as the communication quality metrics. By using base noise-immunity and spectral efficiency formulas, final interrelatedness expressions for these modulations are obtained. By granting threshold effect in FM demodulator, BER and bandwidth efficiency plane for the modulations are plotted, by basing on the obtained expressions. The following results are summarized: if it is necessary to get maximum efficiency in command channel, then PCM/MPSK of CCSDS should be used; if it is necessary to get maximum noise-immunity in command channel, then PCM/BPSK/FM of ESA should be used, where signal-to-noise ratio should be bigger than the FM threshold signal-to-noise ratio. These results can be used to design Russian open space standard.
