Application of complex probe signals in new generations of sonars developed in JSC «NIIP»

Abstract:
Currently, the volume of works, carried out by sonars, constantly increases. Also increases the complexity of tasks, that require im-provement of the basic technical characteristics of sonars. Similarly sharply raises the problem of simultaneous determination of range and radial velocity of targets. And one of the ways to solve these problems is using of complex probe signals with long duration in sonars. JSC «NIIP» over the past few years has been actively working on the development of a new generation of Russian sonars. And one of the main issues in this case is a question of finding new types of complex signals, as well as the possibility of their use in a new generation of Russian sonar. One of the first during research works carried out in conjunction with «IRE by V.A. Kotelnikov RAS» was developed experimental model of sonar, in which we can use, along with a short tone signal and chirp signal, new complex signals, in particular, discrete frequency coded signals (DFCS). In 2010, the developed sonar, in which implemented algorithms of formation and processing of DFC signals, was successfully tested on the Moscow River. However, the use of narrow-band complex signals does not allow at present to solve a number of important tasks in sonar, such as maintaining a high range resolution with a simultaneous significant increasing of the working range. So the next logical step, according to the studies conducted in «IRE by V.A. Kotelnikov RAS», was the use of ultrawideband probe signals in sonar. Results of field tests, conducted in 2011 by «NIIP», during which a scheme of sonar constructing, circuit solutions, as well as algorithms for generating and processing of new types of ultra-wideband signals were worked out, formed the basis for the development of a new type of active sonar. Using of ultrawideband chaotic probe signals (UWBCS) is the further stage of sonar evolution. Today this trend should be considered as one of the most promising. Special interest in using of chaotic signals caused by their unique properties, the use of which, for example, allows high speed data transmission over hydroacoustic communication channel. In 2013 JSC «NIIP» was manufactured and successfully tested sonar adapted to transmit and receive UWBC signals. Conducted in NIIP researches, should only be considered as the beginning of a large chain of works, which include both theoretical and practical part of a wide range of tasks aimed at the creation of new precision Russian sonars.
