Abstract:
Here we present analysis of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) applications on telecommunication networks for Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) systems. It is considered the SOA applications for amplification optical signals in RoF systems comparing to fiber optic amplifiers on doped optical fibers. Features of the SOA as a modulator of the optical carrier are described. The variants of devices based on SOA for single side band modulating of optical carrier are presented. The technical solutions for the formation of the up-stream channel RoF sys-tem based on reflective SOA (RSOA) are presented. There are proposed the variants of RSOA use for the case of the radio channel carri-er formation as difference of two optical carriers when only one of them modulated by data stream. Features of a SOA as a detector and its use as the universal device with functions of amplification, modulation and detection of optical signals are also considered. There are listed some typical for telecommunication networks SOA applying which may be also used in RoF systems. The expansion of using of based on SOA devices in systems with the production improvement of the photonic integrated circuits are forecasted.
