Polarization-modulation method of a moving object bearing measuring utilizing orthogonal circle modulated signals of a radio beacon

Abstract:
A method of a moving object bearing measurement is discussed. A radio beacon illuminates simultaneously from two different points the orthogonal circle polarized signals. Amplitudes, phases and frequencies of the signals are the same. The resulting signal is re- ceived by the antenna of the on-board one channel receiver. In the UHF cannel of the receiver there is a polarization modulator with a half wavelength phase plate rotating with a specified velocity. Bearing of the moving object is found by the indirect method at the output of the receiver using the fourth harmonic of the modulator rotation frequency.
