Abstract:
The monopole mass analyzer from hyperbolic mass spectrometers is distinguished a number of advantages: smaller dimensions, lightness and less precise requirements for the parameters of the supply voltage. However, the monopole mass analyzer has worse analytical characteristics than the quadrupole mass filter and the quadrupole ion trap. Therefore, the questions about analytical characteristic improvements of the monopole mass analyzer are relevant. In the article, the solution of resolution improvement is proposed which it follows from the analyze result of ion trajectories in mass analyzer electric field. It is shown, that the device resolution is reduced due to next factors: the first is unsorted ions, flying close to analyzer axis; the second is unstable ions, pulling into detector by high electric field of secondary electron multiplier. Consequently, elimination of the ion trajectories noticeably will to improve the mass analyzer resolution. To the goal achievement, the using of new electrode system geometry of two-cascade monopole mass analyzer in which the electrode sections position consecutively and turn relative to each other on 180°, is offered, that it limits the entering the unsort and unstable ions into detector. Numerical modeling and experimental investigations had shown, that the application the new electrode system geometry improves monopole mass analyzer resolution in 1,5 times.
