The Two Approaches to Flattened-Layered Medium Parameters Reconstruction as Applied to Ultra-Wideband Short-Pulse Sounding

Abstract:
This paper is aimed at improving of diagnostics quality of geometrical and electrophysical parameters of flattened-layered medium sounded with ultra-wideband (UWB) short-pulse signals. Two methods are presented which fully and partially take into account the main artifacts which distort both the sounding and the scattered UWB signals. The most essential are the artifacts caused by effective height of transmitting and receiving antennas as well as by radio frequency (RF) channels of transmitter and receiver. The results of registering these artifacts as well as results of experimental reconstruction of parameters for flattened-plane layered medium are presented
