Abstract:
Several kinds of discrete transforms have been used in image compression, image enhancement, watermarking, and feature extraction for pattern recognition, etc. Among them the discrete Gabor transform has received much attention during the last years because its several interesting properties that relate it with the human visual system. These facts make the discrete Gabor transform very useful tool in applications such as image compression, watermarking, and pattern recognition in which the ability of process and extract perceptually relevant information is very important. This paper presents several successful applications of the Gabor transform in such fields as image compression, watermarking, and signature recognition.
