Abstract:
Composition and content of pharmacologically active phenolic compounds were studied in the grass and roots of Echinacea purpurea plants (variety «Tan′usha»), which grown up in the Belgorod and Moscow regions. It has been found that the major phenolic compounds of E. purpurea are derivatives of caffeic acid: chicoric and caftaric acid. Soil and climatic conditions of Belgorod and Moscow regions are very different that have influence on the growth of E. purpurea and content of phenolic compounds. It has been shown that E. purpurea plants from the Moscow region is characterized by a smaller size, lower productivity and the higher level of chicoric acid in the grass compared with E. purpurea from Belgorod region. It is assumed that the low content of nitrogen in the soil of Moscow region is an important regulatory factor that reduces activity of E. purpurea growth and stimulates the process of phenylalanine transformation into phenolic compounds.
