The Influence of low frequency physical factors on cell proliferation and cytokine gene expression

Abstract:
Growth-regulating activity of 8 cells lines (normal and tumor cells) after physical factors (acoustic waves, low frequency electromagnetic waves, extremely high frequency electromagnetic waves) exposure was investigated in this work. Also the impact of these physical factors on cytokine gene expression was learned. Acoustic waves with 50 Hz frequency led to proliferation index increase of all cells lines. Acoustic waves with 100 Hz frequency led to statistically significant proliferation index reduction. Cytokine gene silencing of INF-α and INF-γ was found after acoustic wave exposure in the range 50 to 10000 Hz. Acoustic wave exposure in the range 2000 to 10000 Hz led to cytokine gene expression increase of IL 1β, 2,4,6 and cytokine gene silencing of TNF-α. Low frequency electromagnetic waves (8 Hz, 72 Hz, 78,5 Hz) reduced growth-regulating activity neither normal nor tumor cells. Inhibitory activity of low frequency electromagnetic waves (in the presence of 3 frequencies) led to complete cells degeneration. Extremely high frequency electromagnetic waves exposure in the range 30 to 300 GHz activated neither normal nor tumor cells growth. These waves exposure during 5 minutes led to cytokine gene expression of TNF-α, IL2 and IL10. 15 minutes exposure time showed mRNA of IL12 synthesis. This cytokine play an important role in natural killer (NK) activation.
