Antibacterial and wound healing potential of methylcellulose derivatives-based ointments containing copper nanoparticals

Abstract:
Trials of interest in this article are aimed to study antibacterial and woundhealing capabilities of ointments with copper nanoparticles (CuNP) dispersed in methylcellulose (MC) itself and in substituted MC : watersoluble methylcellulose (MC 100), hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (GPMC), sodium carboxymethylcellulose (Na-KMC) with copper nanoparticles (CuNP). Antibacterial resources of ointments were tested against Gram negative - Esherichia coli AB1157, Esherichia coli K12, ? and Gram positive - Stafilicoccus albus. Gels from MC derivatives themself and CuNP containing compositions with MC-s demonstrated antibacterial effects. A most pronounced antimicrobial trend against St. albus strain is registered for GPMC ointment with CuNP. We used the full-layer skin wounds model in mice strain SHK to estimate healing potential of ointments. The time of half-healing and comparative changes in areas of closing wounds during the whole course of therapie were calculated for quantitative estimation of ointments samples effectiveness. Gels from MC derivatives and CuNP containing compositions based on such gel greases appeared to show wound-healing effects. Best results were obtained for CuNP containing ointments based on MC100 and Na-KMC. CuNP preparations when compared with commercial pharmaceuticals «Solkoseril Gel» and «Levomicol» ointments manufactured industrially exhibited similar effects.
