Abstract:
Plectranthus amboinicus ( Lour. ) Spreng. is a succulent perennial herb with thick fragrant leaves belonging to Lamiaceae family. This species are widely distributed in the tropics. It has been reported to exhibit antioxidant, leishmanial, urolithiasis, antiepileptic, antitumor, antimutagenic, radioprotective effect, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal properties. Due to lack of precise morphological criteria, there are difficulties in identifying some species of the genus Plectranthus. Trichomes plants can serve one of diagnostic attributes. In this study trichomes of Plectranthus amboinicus were examined by light microscopy. Based on these results were identified two types of non-glandular and three types of four subtypes of glandular hairs. Non-glandular are two types: monocelled papilliform and multicellular articulate. Glandular are of three types: with capitate, globe-shaped and pear-shaped head. In capitate type and type with pear-head were identified two subtypes in cell number and height stalk. There is unicellular stalk in the first subtype. There is one-row stalk from 2-3 cells in the second subtype.
