Abstract:
The influence of retinoic acid (atRA) on vascular endothelial growth factors VEGFs and their receptors VEGFRs mRNA expression in multiple myeloma (MM) cell cultures was studied. VEGF-A and VEGF-D, but not VEGFR2 or VEGFR3 genes were expressed in all MM cell cultures studied. VEGF-C and VEGFR1 mRNA was revealed only in IM9 cells. The addition of atRA to MM cell cultures changed the levels of VEGFs gene expression, the character of changes depending on the cell type. The correlation between the changes of RARα and VEGFs gene expression was found. The cell cultures were characterized by the rate of proliferation and by their reaction to the atRA addition. atRA stimulated IM9 cell proliferation, the only cells expressing VEGFR1, and caused insignificantly inhibiting effect on other cell cultures.
