Abstract:
Lycopus europaeus L. is a perennial herb belonging to the Labiatae family. The growth area of Lycopus europaeus L. includes almost all Europe, Western and Eastern Siberia and Central Asia. As medicinal plant raw material roots, herb and leaves are used. The structure of Lycopus europaeus L. is well studied. The biologically active substances of Lycopus europaeus extract are caffeic acid derivatives. According to the results of preclinical studies Lycopus europaeus extract is a low toxicity substance elicited a thyrotrophic activity. An effective model of the functional and structural thyroid gland in rats was developed. Thus, Lycopus europaeus L. is a perspective medicinal plant to develop a new herbal remedy for treatment of hypo-and hyperthyroidism.
