Abstract:
Aimed at studying metabolic links between the osteotropic bioelements at the final stage of forming peak bone mass, the content of Ca, Mg, Sr, P and K has been investigated in hair samples of 79 pubertal girls (15-17 years old) from the I-II health groups using nuclear emission spectrometry. Mineral density of bone tissue was determined by ultrasound densitometry (index stf). The levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) and calcitonin (CT) in blood serum were studied by the immune radiometric method. Decreased bone mass was noted in 13,5 % of the examined girls. The median of calcium regulating hormones corresponded to normal values (PTH 17,3 pg/ml; CT 1,7 pg/ml). Element hair spectrum in pubertal girls is characterized by an increased Ca, Mg and Sr content combined with an absolute deficiency in P and K content, which is aggrevated by their relative insufficiency with such high level of Ca. This leads to a marked impairment in the proportion between the elements and to a growth of Ca/P and Ca/K coefficients. Increased Ca/P ratio reflects a decrease in the energy support of Ca metabolism. Increased Ca/K ratio, which is considered to express calcitonin activity, is observed in a decreased activity of this hormone. A strong correlation between Ca, Mg, Sr was marked, as well as between Ca/P and these bioelements. According to A.V. Skalny and B. Momchilovich concept (2000, 2005), increased Ca content in hair in women reflects its high exchange pool, is associated with decreased accumulation of this element in bones, accelerated elimination from the body and the development of pre-deficiency state. To prevent the development of osteoporosis, it is necessary "to preserve" Ca in the body. Based on the data of this hypothesis, we calculated the activity of eliminating osteotropic bioelements with hair regarding the value of mineral bone density stf using the differential method of marginal levels. People with deviated stf indices of the 3-4th degree were included in the compared samples: the 1st subgroup - lower than the 5th percentile (median stf 71 relative units), the 2nd - higher than 95 percentile (median stf 110 relative units). In maximal bone density index, decreased Ca, Mg, Sr content was revealed (by 15-25%) as compared with their level in the given biological substrate with low levels of stiffnis index.
