Abstract:
Acute endotoxicosis causes liver injury, manifested by inflammation, necrosis of hepatocytes and cholestasis. Endotoxicosis is also complicated by nonthyroidal illness syndrome. Nonthyroidal illness syndrome is a decrease of thyroid hormones blood concentrations which complicates the main disease. Restoration of thyroid status during systemic illness is reasonable because low thyroid hormones blood levels are associated with higher risk of lethality. But effect of thyroid status restoration on target organs of endotoxin is poorly investigated. The aim of the research was to evaluate functional activity of hepatocytes after correction of thyroid status by single injection of thyroid stimulating hormone. Activities of aminotransferases, gamma-glutamiltransferase, and cholestherase in serum, level of endotoxinaemia and liver histology were assessed. Normalization of liver function tests, liver histology and decrease of endotoxiaemia showed that administration of thyroid stimulating hormone restores liver function in acute endotoxicosis.
