Abstract:
A knowledge-based system is currently being developed for material selection. It involves a new approach, which is consistent with the framework of concurrent engineering. An inclusion of problem formulator and ideation tools is proposed to facilitate selection of materials. In addition, we propose a new type of query that will consist of functional elements, linguistic variables, and dimensional analysis. We investigate these methods and techniques and demonstrate how our program wouldwork with presented case studies.
