Abstract:
Different approaches to modeling of aluminia reduction cell are discussed. Two models are compared: the first one is based on the assumption that molten aluminia and cryolite are two immiscible fluids which interact via viscous friction, the second is based on two-phase heterogeneous approach. The same is applicable for a three-phase multiphase mixture (aluminia, electrolyte, gas bubbles) ? this leads to more correct model. The verification of averaging of three dimensional model that is based on low vertical velocities is provided. The results of computations made on different models show that from the beginning of work of the reduction cell - two-phased model is correct enough. Real-time modeling of the reduction cell (taking geometry into consideration) was performed using two-dimensional mode
