While modeling compound radiolocation systems necessity of displaying different objects on the map may emerge. Usage of cartographic background can be justified in the following cases: displaying moving objects; moving objects on the map by user; placing objects on the map; modeling of many objects’ behavior.
As an alternative to existing solutions usage of Microsoft Encarta ActiveX component is proposed. Microsoft Encarta application basically is an interactive globe, which, besides providing quality images of different areas’ maps, also allows getting educational info about objects on the map. ActiveX component enables embedding of this interactive globe into user applications and provides interface for real-time change of displaying parameters of the map.
In the paper realization of cartography system with Microsoft Encarta ActiveX component is considered. Advantages of the proposed method are:
1) High quality maps, provided by Microsoft Encarta application;
2) Large amount of objects displayed on the map;
3) Simple mechanism of component embedding into user applications;
4) Rich possibilities for customization of objects displayed on the map.
