Analysis of glutathione part of the antioxidant protective system of males of the north region with various levels of human induced pressures

More than half of the working population of Russia work under the conditions of negative impact of chemical compounds. Currently, the predominant source of environmental pollution is motor transport. In the Northern urbanized region, drivers of heavy vehicles and fuel trucks are experiencing double anthropogenic pressure. One of the mechanisms through which the impact of environmental factors on the human body is oxidative stress.
To study the activity of the glutathione component of the antioxidant protection system in workers in the Northern region, depending on the level of anthropogenic load. 182 male residents of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Region were examined. The main group – 94 drivers: 36 with experience of less than 5 years and 56 – more than 5 years. A control group consisted of 88 employees. Mean age 32,6±6,2 years.
Standard methods in erythrocytes and plasma were used to determine reduced glutathione (GSH), oxidized glutathione (GSSG), glutathione peroxidase (GPO) activity, glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione reductase (GR)Yu).
In persons with less than 5 years of experience, exposed to toxic effects of harmful chemicals, identified early significant changes in metabolic status, namely: glutathione system, characterized by a decrease in the content of reduced glutathione (1.4 times), a decrease in the level of GST activity (72% and 64%, respectively, in red blood cells and blood plasma) with an increase in GR activity (50%). More pronounced changes in adaptive metabolic reactions in the body of employees of motor transport enterprises with more than 5 years of work experience are associated with the destabilization of the glutathione system with signs of reduced activity of all its antioxidant enzymes.
To conduct a systematic study of the state of activity of the glutathione component of the AOC in the population whose work activity is associated with the adverse effect of the habitat factors. The obtained data on the state of the glutathione link system of antioxidant protection in residents exposed to the negative effects of chemical factors can be the basis not only in the formation of risk groups, the development and implementation of a complex of scientifically-based preventive measures, but also for the subsequent evaluation of the effectiveness of their use.
