Comparison of sygnal processing methods for calibration of digital receiving antenna array

Two methods of pilot signal processing compared, for digital RX antenna array calibration. In first case, complex samples of pilot signal are buffered and averaged for each array channel, and then ratio of averaging results is computed. In second case, samples relations for different channels are computed first, and then averaged. Second method is much more resistant in the case of phase drift during signal sampling.
In Rx digital array antenna calibration, samples of channel response to pilot signal is usually available for each of channel and each of sample number. To determine relative channel gains, this samples are usually averaged first as , and then ratios are computed to reference channel data as . It is shown that result in this case is unstable when pilot signal phase is drifting during samples accumulation. It is also shown, that when ratios of samples are computed first, and then averaged as , phase drift is not affect to calibration results. This method is much more stable and can be recommended in the case when pilot signal is above the noises.
