Currently, there are works describing different stochastic physical processes for creating unique characteristics of objects. Electrical breakdown of dielectrics and semiconductors is a process of a sharp drop in their electrical resistance when exposed to an electric field, the voltage of which exceeds the critical value.
Among the entire set of bits there exists the avalanche-streamer discharge, providing a range of stochastically located channels of the destruction of the solid insulator. An important condition for its creation is the application to the interelectrode interval of a sharply inhomogeneous electric field, the voltage of which must exceed the critical value.
In this paper, a paper medium was chosen as a solid dielectric, placed between two electrodes – a tip and a plane. A high-voltage source was connected to the electrodes. Since the interelectrode interval consists of an air layer and a dielectric, the gas breakdown voltage sufficient for the discharge is calculated first. This voltage was sufficient to create channels of destruction of the dielectric. To obtain a set of channels, the voltage required for the avalanche-streamer discharge was determined. It takes time within nanoseconds to form a discharge.
During the experiments, branching streamers ensured the creation of non-reproducible picture of the channels of destruction of the paper dielectric.
