There is a problem of replacing heavy metal structures with light composite materials. For example, mirror antennas and waveguides are made of composites, which can be used in the development of antenna systems not only for the space industry, but also in ship-building. The article proposes a new microstrip patch antenna of Doppler logs in the radiofrequency range for marine vessels allows to automatically control the movement and to estimate the sea state. The antenna consists of separate segments, which are a structure of stages. It forms one of the slanting beams. It is lighter and cheaper to manufacture than a waveguide slot antenna.
Segments are mounted with the desired angle and are separated from each other by radio wave absorbing material. The mathematical equations for calculating the radiation characteristics were obtained. Calculation of three-dimensional antenna pattern is produced. The results of measurements of the developed antenna are presented. They confirm the theoretically calculated radiation parameters. Rec-ommendations on the technical implementation of the power system of the developed antenna are given. It can be realized by means of waveguide power dividers into two and three parts. A study of the characteristics of microstrip antenna as an analogue of the waveguide slot antenna was performed. Also presented formulas for the calculation of the waveguide-slot antenna array with inclined beam. The gain and radiation pattern are determined. Radiation pattern of microstrip patch has negative side-lobe level of 11,5 dB. Each individual beam has an elliptical shape. The width of the beam is the maximum cross-sections of 3,8 to 10,2 degrees. Radiation pattern of a wave-guide slot antenna has side-lobe level of 15,5 dB. The width of the beam is the maximum cross-sections of 4,1 to 6,3 degrees. The radia-tion characteristics of a classical waveguide-slit antenna are better in terms of lateral radiation.
The developed antenna can be used as a cheaper and easier to manufacture antenna system. Experimental measurements of the roll angles, trim and speed of the vessel are required. So it is possible to determine how the increase in lateral radiation affects the accuracy of the estimation of motion parameters. With the deterioration of accuracy, it is possible to develop filtering algorithms in the frequency domain for signals that come from the side lobes of the antenna pattern.
