During the operation of technical means for processing, storing, and transmitting information, electrical currents of informative signals circulate in the structural elements and cable connections of these devices. This leads to the formation and radiation into the surrounding space of electromagnetic fields, the levels of which may be sufficient to receive them at a distance from the technical means and extract information from them using special equipment.
In accordance with various regulatory acts of the Russian Federation, as well as the guidelines of various departments, confidential information needs constant protection. Protection measures can be both organizational and legal: access restriction, the introduction of a permit system, criminal liability for violation of the procedure for processing or storing information, etc. Technical measures include hardware and software systems and devices designed for continuous monitoring of the situation at the facility, intrusion detection tools, firewalls, encryption tools, virtualization tools, means of protection from spurious electromagnetic emissions and interference, abbreviated as TEMPEST.
In this article we consider technical countermeasures of TEMPEST. The topic has a high relevance from a practical point of view: suf-ficiently large financial resources need to be spent by organizations to meet the provisions and requirements of regulatory acts of the Russian Federation in the field of protection against TEMPEST. Therefore, cost reduction and improvement of security indicators are key areas for the development of technical tools in this area.
