The assessment of efficiency of use of natural sorbents of Kaluga region based on bentonite clays at sorption of ions of heavy metals

In sorption technologies, a wide variety of sorbents is used and the use of a particular sorbent requires preparatory work aimed at the most effective use. The paper considers the effectiveness of bentonite clays of Borschevsky Deposit, Kaluga region as sorbents of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. The data of the study of physical, mechanical and sorption properties of clay, its activation and a com-parative analysis of samples of copper solutions within the concentration of 0.1…1 mg/l. In the study of physical and mechanical proper-ties were obtained almost uniform values of humidity, regardless of the fractional composition, the true volume of the sorbent increased with a decrease in the diameter of the particles. Ash content, as well as humidity, did not depend on the fractional composition. Aqueous solutions containing chromium, iron, manganese and copper were used as model solutions. Analysis of the data of changes in the con-centrations of copper, manganese, iron, chromium ions on the sorbent showed that the sorption was most effectively carried out in aqueous solutions of copper, for other metals, the data varied within the error. On the basis of the conducted research, further work was carried out in the field of research of sorption processes on bentonite clays of copper ions, the activation of the sorbent by means of a sodium-activating additive was proposed. The best sorption properties showed activated bentonite clay in the area of copper concentra-tions of 0.5…1 mg/l with the help of a sodium-activating additive in a percentage of 0.5% and 1% of the clay weight.
