Measurement of deformations of large-size mirror in real telescope operating conditions on the example of telescope BTA

The article is devoted to the investigation of the possibility of measuring the deformations of the main mirror of the largest in Eurasia BTA telescope under real conditions. The need to measure deformations in real conditions is based on the results of studying the mirror's behavior when the ambient temperature changes and the optical axis of the telescope is in different directions. Studies have shown an unacceptable contribution of the mirror to the degradation of image quality given by the telescope. On the basis of an analysis of possible ways of creating measuring instruments that allow in real conditions to measure the change in the shape of the surface of a mirror under the influence of weight and temperature effects, proposed a scheme of a deformation control device that is mounted directly on the telescope itself and does not change its physico-mechanical characteristics. The results of measurements obtained with the proposed device will make it possible to estimate the actual damage from distortions of the main mirror and to determine the radical ways of improving (upgrading) the telescope.
