Aspects of intelligence and intuition in the system model of the brain activity

In solving some aspects of complex problems an important role is played by unconscious mental processes or processes that indirectly depend on conscious control - incubation, insight and the use of skills, skills, united by the notion of intuition [1, 2]. Similar phenomena are treated with the help of a model developed on the basis of the theory of functional systems. The model allows us to present the logical information interconnection of individual mechanisms that provide for a person's mental activity, including the phenomena of consciousness, biographical memory, isolation and reflection in the mind of a person's self, the automation of complex skills and intuitive unconscious learning. Interpretation of intuition phenomena in solving new complex problems on the basis of the model makes it possible to specify conditions and preparatory operations that promote the appearance of intuitive ways of solving such problems. This model was confirmed in many studies of the brain and mental activity of man. Experimental studies of intuitive unconscious human learning, in which the processes described as the work of subsystems A and B were singled out, were carried out by us, beginning in 1966-1970, they were published in a number of works [9]. Recently, the works devoted to the study of learning and memory processes realized in the unconscious mental sphere of man have become fashionable. These processes are similar to those we studied earlier, called implicit memory, implicit learning, sequential training [14]. In a number of works, data on the separation of functions analogous to the functions of subsystems A and B described in the model [15], similar to the hierarchical organization of memory described in the model [16], the role of foresight in the choice of programs of actions and results [17], the role of disagreement in learning [18]. A detailed review of these papers in their comparison of the experimental results obtained in them with our model is given in [14]. The isolation in our model of the element "I" can be compared with the scheme of the mechanism of consciousness, proposed and developed by A.M. Ivanitsky [19]. The existence of two types of mental activity, in particular, two types of connections – is consistent with the notion of dynamic and rigid connections (E.I. Boyko [20]) and also is consistent with flexible and rigid links of N.P. Bekhtereva [21]; conditioned-reflex and figurative memory – according to I.S. Beritashvili and, finally, to a certain extent, with the separation of the first and second signal systems – according to I.P. Pavlov.
