Peculiarities of relaxation luminescence of surface tissue of seeds of plants

A complex study of the relaxation of luminescence of the surface tissue of plant seeds in the time domain at room temperature was performed. It is found that the time for the establishment of polarization is in the microsecond time range of ~0.5…1.5 μs. During this time, the electron-phonon interaction is absent, the luminescence acquires a resonance character (without loss of energy). Previously, this phenomenon was observed only in gases. These unusual properties of plant seeds can be explained by the existence in them of spontaneous (ferroelectric) polarization. A new technique is proposed for the decomposition of the luminescence relaxation curve into two components, one of which is delayed fluorescence and the other is phosphorescence.
