We have analyzed taekwon-do as a system of martial art based on two types of principles: first-order principle (“segment motion” and “rotation”) and second-order principle (“rotation” and “vertical force”). First-order principle characterizes several types of martial arts which use the “striking” technique. Second-order (or systemic) principle determines specific martial art. Knowledge about principles allows combining skills from martial arts based on different principles.
