Calculation of slot radiators with layered cover based on the integral equation method

Small slot antennas and antenna arrays are widely used in various communication systems. The use of layered covers for slot radiators significantly changes their amplitude-phase, directional and frequency properties. In these conditions the using of the known duality principle allowing to calculate, for example, a slot vibrator on the base of the calculation of the equivalent microstrip vibrator taking into account local fields appeared in layered structures should be considered. This leads to the problem of adequate analysis of the slot radiators. The paper proposes a method for calculating the slot radiators with layered cover, based on the use of integral equations for the magnetic currents which simulate slot radiators. The method is based on the most general approach to solving electrodynamic problems for inhomogeneous structures, which consists in the construction of integral representations of fields in flat layered structures using the representation of the vector potential for magnetic currents with the help of tensor Green function. When constructing elements of the tensor Green function for magnetic currents, its analogy with the tensor Green function for the electric currents in the layered structure is set, that simplifies the procedure of calculation of the tensor elements. For the numerical solution of the integral equation the effective numerical algorithm based on self-regularization principle is proposed. The calculation results of the radiation pattern of the linear slot radiator with cover, as well as their comparison with the results of an experiment are given. This leads to the conclusion about more accurate solution of the problem by the method of integral equations, compared with the use of the software packages.
