Predistortion technique for ultrashort radiated pulses superposition based on determination of impulse response

A predistortion technique for ultra-short basic pulses superposition for obtaining required waveform radiated by ultra-wideband antenna was presented in the paper. The main principle of this method is determination of impulse response, that connects signal on the input of an antenna with farfield. Tikhonov regularization was required for obtaining physical existing solution which guarantees convergence of the method and correct calculation of impulse response. Simulation results of ultra-wideband antenna were used to approve developed technique. Gaussian monocycle with certain magnitude, width and delay was applied as signal which parameters were optimized by genetic algorithm. It was applied to calculate parameters of base signals which provide the best fitness of radiated superposition to required waveform. As the result the radiated pulse with smaller duration had been obtained. Determination of impulse response was approved experimentally in a lab with the system contained two TEM horn antennas. Results agreed well with proposed technique if experimental imperfection and inaccuracies were taking into account.
