Analysis of the influence of the electric field distortion in a sectional mass filter on separating conditions of charged particles

By numerical simulation the effect of different types of axial offsets of the sectional mass filter analyzer, which may arise during its assembly in regions of joining sectional compounds, is investigated. For the example of a two-sectional electrode system we conducted research of the influence of the rotate of the second section around a longitudinal axis, «bending» of the longitudinal axis and the linear displacement of the second section in transverse directions analyzer. On the basis of the results we determined manufacturing tolerances for the assembly of the sectional analyzer, in which the ion losses do not exceed five percent threshold.
