Analysis of a longitudinally non-uniform dielectric transition in a circular waveguide: 3. Numerical results for excitation in the TE11 mode

The present paper is a continuation of the first and second parts of the work containing a general algorithm developed for analysis of electromagnetic wave scattering at a uniaxial junction of two circular waveguides where one of them contains an axially symmetrical longitudinally non-uniform two-layer dielectric transition of finite length («Radiotekhnika», 2015, №4, pp. 84−90), as well as a special algorithm corresponding to excitation of the transition in the axially symmetrical TM modes («Radiotekhnika», 2015, №10, pp. 37−44). In the present third part of the work we present some results of realization of the algorithm developed in the first part corresponding to excitation of the transition in the dominant TE11 mode. The algorithm has been realized in FORTRAN and MATLAB codes. Their operation was tested for accuracy of satisfying the power balance relation and for convergence of the results with increasing the number of retained transverse functions and the number of the finite elements over the transition length characterizing effectiveness of the algorithm. Some results of the code operation are compared to the results obtained by other methods and means including rigorous analytic solution for a transition completely filled in with homogeneous dielectric and numerical solution obtained with using CST STUDIO. We also present some results characterizing the properties of the transition itself for various parameters of the latter including cases of a conical transition as well as a cylindrical transition both in the absence and in the presence of a step junction of two circular waveguides.
