Calculation of generalized complicated cross section waveguides

A novel numerically efficient solution of the eigenvalue problems for H- and E-modes of the complicated cross section waveguides with generalized step-wise profile is presented. The proposed problem formulation takes into consideration the wide range of multi-ridge wa-veguide structures as well as the waveguides with non-coordinate cross-section which may be defined by the step-wise approximation. The solution is based on Galerkin method with taking into account the edge condition. The electromagnetic problem under consideration is reduced to the system of integral equations of the first kind for the tangential component of the electric field on the common interfaces of the regular regions. We find the solution of the obtained integral equation system by Galerkin method with the weighted Gegenbauer polynomials as the basis functions. The suggested technique allows calculating of the complicated spectra with more than 100 modes for the multiple-ridged waveguides used, for example, in the waffle iron filters. The calculated spectra of 10-ridge and 20-ridge waveguides are discussed. The comparison of the proposed theory with commercially available CAD simulators CST MWS и HFSS is considered. Due to the fast convergence and high accuracy the proposed technique may be used as a test tool for other methods for calculation of waveguides with complicated cross section.
