About the characteristics of lateral reception (radiation) of the phased ring antenna arrays

The physical laws of formation of the directional patterns sidelobes of the phased circular antenna arrays have been considered in the article. It has been shown that the value of the normalized power directional pattern of the flat phased antenna array for any azimuth θ is defined by the sum of cosines from the normalized to the value of λ /2π dot products of a vector difference of the unit vectors corresponding to an azimuth θ and a phasing direction θ0, and the vectors of the array edges – differences of the radius-vectors of antenna elements. Thereupon the requirement of a resonant maximum of sidelobe level of directional pattern – closeness to unity of the mentioned cosines for all edges of an array simultaneously has been defined. The design procedure of a maximum sidelobe level against the electrodynamic radius of an uniform circular array and number of antenna elements, and also the technique of definition of an upper bound of an operating range of wave lengths of the array during its using as the multichannel direction finder antenna system have been offered. The derived results are easily extended to the case of any flat antenna array which has axial symmetry. The article contains 4 figures and references to 7 sources of the information.
