The technique of rigorous electrodynamic calculation of diffraction on the heterogeneity in a rectangular dielectric waveguides has been considered.
Dielectric inhomogeneities have been introduced into the waveguide paths to create a frequency-selective and matching devices in the construction of vibration and stabilizes the structure of oscillators, sealing devices, and flanged connections. Designing of these devices based on waveguides leads to the necessity of solving internal problems of diffraction. The key tasks of this type are the diffraction problem on stepped dielectric inhomogeneities in regular waveguides and strip lines. Dielectric heterogeneity depending on their function, may have a different geometric configuration, but all of them can be modeled using a stepwise approximation. The article heterogeneity is a portion of the waveguide filled with nonuniform dielectric. It has been modeled by a cascade connection of multiports representing segments of double-layer rectangular waveguides, which constitute the generalized scattering matrix.
In mathematical modeling step inhomogeneities most effective method is the method of partial domains. The article discusses the procedure for implementing this method in solving the problem of diffraction by a dielectric inhomogeneities in the rectangular waveguides for the fundamental incident wave. The construction process of the algorithm for calculating the scattering matrix of the irregular portion of the waveguide containing heterogeneity has been described. The total scattering matrix of the cascading gives an algorithm.
The presented numerical results demonstrate the ability to manage the transmission characteristics of the irregular portion of the waveguide path varying parameters of the dielectric insert, which can act as a dielectric resonator, a frequency selecting device, a matching load. The developed algorithm allows calculating the scattering matrix elements of, in principle, any two-dimensional dielectric inhomogeneities in shielded rectangular waveguides, and solving the problem of optimization of their parameters under the functional units of a given type.
